“Traces of Covid Found but NO People Positive”.
In this very sensitive season, Channel 7 news room has recently dubbed Perisher as a “Covid hot spot” and followed it up with this statement “Screening picked up Covid in the ski resort sewerage”.
The way it was reported, it is hard to believe that “screening” took place in the sewerage plant. The North East Media were also quick to report it and said “Traces of Covid Found but NO People Positive”.
More importantly, could this be seen as scaremongering or sensationalism and for what reason? secondly who or what establishment would stand to gain from these statements? And the following was not explained in any report.
The WHO (World Health Organization) news room commentaries put forward their scientific brief :
“Modes of transmission of virus causing COVID-19: implications for IPC precaution recommendations”.
In short the WHO says there is no known Covid transmission from what is known as “shedding” or from faeces. And the NSW Health site mentioned that tests are being carried out across the board at sewage plants for traces of shedding of the Covid culture. Also there is no evidence that they could grow the offending culture from any of the samples across the board. If Covid was present in any known “Hot Spot”, the tests would only reveal the presence of the benign RNA fragments in that area’s treatment plant.
